About Me
I’m Yannick, a freelance DevOps engineer and AWS specialist. I help teams with AWS - whether you’re a SaaS ISV hosting your platform, an online retailer, or taking your very first steps into the cloud. That might mean building a solid foundation from scratch, or getting an existing setup cheaper, more reliable, and a lot less scary to operate.
Background
I’ve worked with startups, scale-ups, and a few larger companies. Sometimes that means starting from a blank account and laying down a solid foundation from day one. Other times it’s the messy middle, where the infrastructure grew faster than anyone planned for. I enjoy both: setting things up right the first time, and untangling a setup that has outgrown its original design so the team can reason about it again.
Most of my time goes into:
- Infrastructure as Code: Terraform, OpenTofu, Terragrunt, AWS CDK, and CloudFormation
- AWS architecture: multi-account setups, security, cost optimization, and Well-Architected reviews
- DevOps: CI/CD pipelines, automation, and monitoring that people actually look at
- Working with teams: mentoring engineers and helping them make the call on the tricky decisions
How I think about it
The best infrastructure is the kind nobody has to think about. If you’re paging through dashboards at 2am, something upstream went wrong. I’d rather spend the effort making deploys boring and bills predictable than firefighting later. Automate the repetitive stuff, write down the decisions, and fix things properly instead of patching around them.
